Emission Maintenance Reminder Reset - Procedure 04

  1. Emission maintenance reminder system will turn on the Red CHECK ENGINE warning light at 52, 500 and 105, 000 miles. Reminder light is reset after required maintenance is performed.
  2. Maintenance light reset is performed through the control unit. Control unit is located behind the lower dash panel, on side of steering column support bracket, above relays. Control unit is Brown, mounted on a Brown plug, with EMISSION MAINTENANCE REMINDER embossed in White on the side.
  3. Remove control unit from plug. See Fig 1. Remove tamper-proof label from top of control unit. Insert small metallic probe into access hole in top of control unit, and momentarily electrically short between reset pins in unit.
  4. Install control unit in plug. Turn ignition on, with engine off. CHECK ENGINE light should come on as part of bulb check, and go out after a few seconds. If warning light stays on, repeat procedure. After reset procedure is confirmed, ensure a NEW tamper-proof label is installed.
