Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) System

The TPM system measures the pressure in each of the tires on the vehicle (including the spare, if required), and issues warnings if any of the pressures deviate from defined tolerances.

Warnings or failures are conveyed by an amber warning indicator illuminated and an appropriate message displayed in the instrument cluster.

The TPM module uses initiators located in each wheelhousing to detect the position of tire on the vehicle. The TPM module also communicates with the vehicle instrument cluster to provide appropriate warnings that show the importance of the condition detected and indicate the status/failure of TPM system components.

The TPM system uses tire pressure sensors which are mounted on each wheel, inside tire cavity. The sensors periodically measure the pressure and temperature of the air inside the tire. The tire pressure sensors are self-contained units which have no electrical connections into or out of the sensor.
