ISSUE
Land Rover have received a number of reports where a vehicle has had a Turbocharger replacement that has subsequently failed within a short period of time.
CAUSE
This may be due to small fragments of material from the original Turbocharger that have remained in the induction system during the repair.
ACTION
Please ensure that the following steps are carried out after the old turbocharger has been removed from the vehicle:
- Remove the air filter and ensure that the air box and filter are completely free of debris.
- Remove and clean all air intake pipes between the air filter and turbocharger, there after to the compressor shut off valve (if fitted) through to the intercooler.
- Remove the intercooler and clean out with a suitable flush agent ensuring it is free of oil and debris.
- Remove and clean any traces of oil and debris in the compressed air pipes from the intercooler to intake manifold.
- If there were signs of oil and debris in the intercooler, then remove the intake manifold and flush out as necessary.
