SERVICE INFORMATION

(Symptom 203000 Basic Electrical)

CUSTOMER CONCERN

The vehicle does not unlock using the key fob, then will not start after gaining entry with the key blade. The vehicle also does not display the "Smart key not found" message when pressing the Start/Stop button. Attemping to start the vehicle, with the key in the failsafe starting position, also does not allow the vehicle to start.

CAUSE

BCM Hardware failure

ACTION

If a vehicle is presented with the following symptom, follow the test procedure outlined below before considering a BCM replacement:

TEST PROCEDURE

Content:

  1. Check basic items which may affect the vehicle's battery. Main power and ground connections at the battery, battery cables fitted and clamps are properly torqued, transit relay is removed, transit mode is removed, all relevant fuses present and not open, overall battery condition... (see the TOPIX Battery Care Manual for relevant battery testing guidelines)
  2. At the vehicle's BCM, ensure power is present at connector C0583 (C3BP02D for Evoque) pins 16, 20, 21 and 22. Ensure no voltage drop is present from battery power to the above referenced pins.
  3. At the vehicle's BCM ensure ground is present at connector C0585 (C3BP02F for Evoque) pins 5 and 25. Ensure no voltage drop is present from vehicle ground to the above referenced pins.
  4. Press the hazard lamp switch and check the operation of the hazard lamps.
    1. Hazard lamps are operating inside and outside of the vehicle: Further diagnosis of the vehicle is required. Submit a Technical Assistance request for diagnostic assistance where necessary. Session data will be required.
    2. Hazard lamps are not operating inside and outside of the vehicle: As long as items 1 through 3 are yielding proper test results, replace the BCM.

In the event that the BCM is replaced for this concern beyond these cut off VIN, please submit an EPQR detailing your diagnosis. Please include your Parts Manager's contact information and email to allow us to collect the BCM from your dealership for further investigation.
