ISSUE
Land Rover have been investigating returned viscous fan assemblies applicable to 5.0 AJ133 engine derivatives which on return have been tested and found to be no fault found.
ACTION
Content:
A viscous fan test is now available via SSD using DVD 130 or later. Prior to fan replacement this test should be carried out to determine if a genuine defect exists. The test runs the fan through a cycle of various speeds which tests for engagement and disengagement within a specified time frame, as well as ensuring fan speeds are achieved. Any failure during the test is flagged.
- The test application requires the vehicle coolant temperature to be at least 82C (180F), and then takes about 7 minutes to run, with SDD controlling the engine speed throughout the application. The test application will fail and return to the menu if the temperature is not at or above 82C (180F).
Select appropriate symptom > Powertrain > Engine System > Engine Cooling. The viscous fan test can then be initiated under the recommendation TAB. See graphics below which show screen shots for reference.
