High Pressure fuel pump diagnostics on 3.0L AJ126 and 5.0L AJ133 engines have been updated.
ACTION
Please refer to the procedure below for information on how to access the new information through SDD.
NOTE:
If there are any DTCs present associated with the low pressure fuel system please address these before continuing. Faults on the low pressure fuel system can affect the behaviour of the high pressure fuel pumps and result in misdiagnosis.
- Connect the approved battery support unit/power supply.
- Connect SDD to the vehicle and begin a new diagnostic session, by reading the vehicle identification number (VIN) for the current vehicle and initiating the data collect sequence.
- Select the Diagnosis Session Type.
- Select the following symptoms: Powertrain - Engine system - Engine performance
- From 'Recommendations', run: Powertrain - High pressure fuel pump test.
- When the SDD application is running the high pressure fuel pumps will be operated in the following sequence:
- High pressure fuel pump 2 - disabled ((SDD will display the following: High pressure fuel pump 1 - PCM - Switch off).
- Both high pressure fuel pumps - enabled
- High pressure fuel pump 1 - disabled (SDD will display the following: High pressure fuel pump 2 - PCM - Switch off).
- Both high pressure fuel pumps - enabled.
- If during the above SDD routine an error message of 36 or 37 appears follow the steps below to run the 'Powertrain control module unlock application' and then repeat the high pressure fuel pump test.
- Select the 'Service Functions' Session Type.
- Run: Powertrain - Powertrain control module unlock application.
- If SDD diagnoses a faulty high pressure pump refer to TOPIx workshop manual, section 303-04 for removal and installation instructions.
- Attachment 'A.pdf' shows the high pressure fuel pumps.
- Pump 1 - Front of engine
- Pump 2 - Rear of engine
- When all tasks are complete, exit the current session by selecting the Session tab and then selecting the Close Session option.
- Disconnect SDD and the battery support unit/power supply.
