CONDITION SUMMARY

Situation: 

A customer may report a concern that the vehicle does not unlock using the Smart key, then will not start after gaining entry with the Smart key blade. The vehicle also does not display the 'Smart key not found' message when pressing the Start/Stop button. Attempting to start the vehicle, with the smart key in the failsafe starting position, also does not allow the vehicle to start.

This version has been issued for a change to the Warranty Times. 

NOTE: All the vehicle keys need to be present before continuing with this Service Instruction.

Cause:  Component tolerances within the Central Junction Box (CJB) (also known as the Body Control Module (BCM)) may prevent correct functionality during attempts to start the vehicle. Suggested Customer Concern Code C27. 

Action:  Should a customer express concern, follow the Service Instruction out lined below.

SERVICE INSTRUCTION

NOTE: All the vehicle Smart keys need to be present before continuing with this Service Instruction.
  1. Check that the battery is correctly charged (see battery care manual), has good connections to the vehicle and that the transit relay has been removed.
    CAUTION: SDD must be loaded with DVD130_05/Calibration File 111 or later.
  2. Connect a Land Rover approved battery support unit/power supply to the vehicle.
  3. Connect SDD to the vehicle and begin a new diagnostic session, by reading the VIN for the current vehicle and initiating the data collect sequence.
  4. Select the Diagnosis Session Type.
  5. Select the Symptoms tab and enter any of the following Symptom(s).
    • Body - Security and locking - Handles locks and latches, or
    • Powertrain - Engine system - Starting system - Will not start - Will not crank.
  6. Check the operation of the Hazard Flashers (front and rear).
    • If they do not operate outside the vehicle then follow the next step in this Service Instruction.
    • If they do operate outside the vehicle do not continue with this bulletin, further diagnosis will be required to identify the failure mode. 
  7. Does the CJB have correct power and ground connections?
    • Record voltages at: - CJB connector C3BP01D, pins 16, 20, 21, 22 (12V).
    • Measure resistance to ground at: - CJB connector C3BP01F, pins 05, 25 (<1 Ohm).
  8. Investigate and rectify if necessary before proceeding to step 9.
  9. Select the Recommendations tab.
  10. 'Configure new modules - Body control module' application.
    NOTE: When asked if a new body control module has been installed, select the 'X' and then continue with the SDD procedure.
  11. Install a new CJB when prompted (see TOPIx Workshop Manual 418 - 00 Central Junction Box (CJB).
  12. Select the Recommendations Tab.
  13. When all tasks are complete, exit the current session by selecting the Session tab and then selecting the Close Session option.
  14. Disconnect SDD and the Land Rover approved support unit/power supply.
