ISSUE
Content
While completing technical bulletin LTB00474 the timing chain appears to be too long (stretched). This Is noticed because the the new timing chain tensioner pin extends out further than the one that was removed from the engine.
CAUSE
The tensioner design has changed. The fixing points for the tensioner have been moved, so the component now sits further away from the timing chain blades. This means the pin now extends out further. This Is correct, and It Is the new design condition for the tensioner. The new tensioner part number Is LR051008.
ACTION
When carrying out technical bulletin LTB00474 the timing chain should not be replaced. When setting the tensioner the pin will extend out further than the one that was removed from the engine. This Is correct and It does not Indicate that the chain has stretched. Follow the TOPIx procedure, as described In LTB00474, for the correct Installation and setup of the timing tensioners.
For information - 2 changes were made to the timing chain system in LTB00474. The first is the new tensioner design, as described above. The second change is the tensioner blade now contains a metal insert where it makes contact with the tensioner to reduce wear on the blade.
