CONDITION SUMMARY

SITUATION:

The front seatbelt(s) may be slow to retract.

CAUSE:

This may be caused by the design of the upper B-pillar trim, allowing the seatbelt to drag on the upper B-pillar trim.

ACTION:

Should a customer express this concern, follow the Service Instruction below.

SERVICE INSTRUCTION

NOTE: ALL seatbelt anchor bolts MUST be replaced if removed.
  1. Remove the B-pillar trim finisher (see TOPIx Workshop Manual, section 501-05: Interior Trim and Ornamentation).
    NOTE:
    • the seatbelt MUST be changed If the webbing of the seatbelt is damaged.
    • the seatbelt should fully retract within three seconds.
  2. Check the seatbelt retraction speed and the seatbelt webbing.
    1. To test the retraction speed of the seatbelt, sit in the vehicle and buckle the seatbelt.
    2. Release the buckle.
      • The webbing should retract within three seconds (different clothing may have an impact on the retraction speed).
        • If the retraction speed is not acceptable or the webbing is damaged, continue to step 3.
        • If the retraction speed is acceptable and the webbing is in good condition, continue to step  4.
    3. Replace the front seatbelt (see TOPIx Workshop Manual, section 501-20A: Safety Belt System).
    4. Install the new B-pillar trim finisher (see TOPIx Workshop Manual, section 501-05: Interior Trim and Ornamentation).
    5. With the new trim installed, assess the retraction speed of the seatbelt.
      • The seatbelt should fully retract within three seconds.
