A customer may report a squeak type noise from the area of the steering column as the steering wheel is rotated.

CAUSE

Column shrouds in contact with the steering wheel.

ACTION

If a customer reports the concern on a 2012 model year vehicles onwards as a first stage of diagnosis remove the steering column shrouds to see if the noise is eliminated, if so refit the shrouds and align as necessary so that they are not in contact with the steering wheel. If the noise is present with the shrouds removed, remove the rotary clock spring and check for any squeak type noise whilst holding the outer casing and rotating the inner section, if the noise can be heard replace the clock spring otherwise continue with diagnosis with reference to TOPIx.
