SERVICE INFORMATION

(Symptom 306000 Tyres/Wheels)

ISSUE

Improper tooling used to remove or secure the road wheel nuts can cause damage.

The wheel nuts may be difficult to remove. The stainless steel outer cap appears 'swollen' and a standard 22mm socket will not fit easily.

CAUSE

Wheel nut distortion due air tool use where repeated hammering actions may distort the wheel nut outer cap. Use of 'bi-hexagonal' 12 point or 'wall drive' sockets can also distort the cap

ACTION

Content:

Where it is necessary to replace the existing road wheel nuts due to distortion and where applicable, please use the latest level part number RRD500510 for replacement.

CAUTION

It is very important to avoid the repeated hammering actions of air tools when removing the wheel nuts as this can distort the outer cap. When tightening the wheel nuts, air tools with a hammering action must not be used. A manual torque wrench must always be used to secure the nuts to final torque in a radially opposing pattern. Refer to TOPIx for the correct wheel nut torque. A plastic sleeved 6 point hexagonal socket is strongly recommended to prevent damage to the nut & alloy wheel.
