ISSUE
Grease leaking past the 'O'ring seal on the centre CV joint of the rear propshaft.
CAUSE
The root cause of the grease leak is the O ring does not seal the can/CV body due to damage during the assembly process at the supplier. Damage detection is now in place at the supplier during the assembly machine cycle and certified stock of rear propshafts is now available via Land Rover Parts. For service parts only the certified stock can be identified by a shrink sleeve on the centre joint and a green label. Please refer to the attached file for further information.
For production vehicles the cut off vin numbers are as follows -
Discovery - BA596802
Range Rover Sport - BA716940
A further communication (TSB) will be issued when the new design rear propshaft is available at the end of the year/early 2012.
ACTION
If the above issue is verified please fit a new propshaft assembly ensuring the newly fitted part contains both the shrink sleeve and green identification label as detailed in the attached file.
