Rear Driveshaft: Removal

NOTE: A small amount of oil may weep from the driveshaft joints during storage. The loss of this oil will not affect the operation or durability of the joint.
    WARNING: Do not work on or under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle on safety stands.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the fuel tank heat shield.
    • Remove the 3 bolts and 2 nuts.

  3. CAUTION: Mark the position of the driveshaft flange in relation to the drive pinion flange.
    CAUTION: To avoid damage to the joint or gaiter, do not allow the driveshaft to hang.
  4. Release the driveshaft from the transfer case drive flange.
    • Remove the 6 Torx bolts and washers.

  5. CAUTION: Mark the position of the driveshaft flange in relation to the drive pinion flange.
    CAUTION: To avoid damage to the joint or gaiter, do not allow the driveshaft to hang.
  6. Release the driveshaft from the rear axle drive flange.
    • Remove and discard the 4 Torx bolts.

  7. With assistance, remove the driveshaft.
    • Remove the 2 driveshaft center bearing mount bolts.
