Transfer Case V6 4.0L Petrol: Removal

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to Specifications .
    2. WARNING: Do not work on or under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle on safety stands.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle.
  3. Remove the front driveshaft. Refer to Front Driveshaft - 4.0L .
  4. Remove the rear driveshaft. Refer to Rear Driveshaft .
  5. Remove the transmission support insulator.
    • Remove the 4 bolts.

  6. Disconnect the transfer case 3 electrical connections.

  7. Release the wiring harness from the transfer case.
    • Remove the 3 bolts.
    • Release the clip.

    8. CAUTION: Always plug any open connections to prevent contamination.
  8. Disconnect the breather line.
    • Depress the locking ring.

  9. Release the fuel line support bracket.
    • Release the fuel lines.
    • Remove the 2 bolts.

  10. Support the transmission on a jack.
    11. WARNING: Secure the component to the transmission jack.
  11. Using a transmission jack, support the transfer case.
  12. With assistance, remove the transfer case.
    • Remove the 8 bolts.
    • Move the fuel hose support bracket aside.
    • Remove the O-ring seal.
